LEM287 DXpedition Log
December 27, 2009 - January 9, 2010

 Iberia
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
729 8.1. 0650 RNE1 Andalucia, Málaga/Alicante, battling quite successfully against La Rioja, which was dominating this morning
828 30.12. 0739 RDP Açores, Monte das Cruzes, Flores, with regional programming beginning at 0730 UTC on weekdays.
 Asia
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
603 9.1. 1000 JOKK NHK1 Okayama
621 5.1. 1400 Heilongjiang PBS (News Service), Harbin etc, HL (multiple locations)
684 8.1. 1112 DYEZ Bacolod, slogan "Aksyon Radyo Bacolod", but uses also call letters.
702

2.1.
8.1.

1359
1300
DZAS Bocaue
729 6.1. 1338 + Shangqiu PBS, Shangqiu EN. At this point the station overpowered the usually dominating Jiangxi PBS with a local hospital ad. Phone numbers are always good hints, in the case of Shangqiu the local area code being 0370 (thanks to Weiwei for checking the number!). An ID at 1400 UTC was unfortunately under the dominant Jiangxi and was only barely discernible. Later I found a better ID at 1301 UTC.
740 2.1. 2300 Voice of Vietnam, An Nhon
756 29.12. 1200 Shengli zhi Sheng, Magong
783 29.12. 1201 Haixia zhi Sheng, Zhangpu FJ. The language on this channel resembled Cantonese. Normally Vietnam is on top during this kind of conditions.
782.8290 8.1. 1151 DZNL San Fernando "Aksyon Radio" gave an ID and other closing announcements at 1301, and switched the transmitter off at 1308 UTC.
792 5.1. 0950 NHK1 Hokkaido, Enbetsu (relaying 567 JOIK).
800.9725 6.1. 1500 Voice of America, Orzu. The Uzbek service identified as "Amerika Ovozi Radio".
819 2.1. 1000 JONK NHK1 Nagano
819 4.1. 1300 Xinjiang PBS (Kazakh Service) via Kuytyn PBS, Kuytun XJ
828 8.1. 1259 Son La Radio, Son La. No definite spoken ID, but I heard the interval melody which has at other times been played with an ID.
846 2.1. 1000 JOCP NHK1 Koriyama, rel. 1323 JOFP Fukushima
846 8.1. 2229 + Shanxi PBS (General Service), Changzhi SX
855 7.1. 1059 HLCX MBC Jeonju
864 8.1. 1303 + DYHH Bogo, "Bantay balita" (Bantay news)
873 2.1. 2259 Voice of Vietnam, Can Tho, Thoi Long
882 9.1. 1000 HLKI KBS1 Daedok
927 2.1. 1000 JOFG NHK1 Fukui
927 6.1. 1300 Beijing PBS (Home Radio), Beijing BJ. Identifies as "Ai Jia Guangbo". Both my home and office in Beijing used to be almost opposite to this station, across the main street, so this was indeed my "Home Radio" - although I never listened to it while in Beijing.
927 8.1. 2300

Nanyang PBS (Arts and Life Service), Nanyang EN

945 9.1. 1000 Heilongjiang PBS, Harbin/Jiamusi HL
963 6.1. 1300 Liaoning PBS (News Station), Dalian/Beipiao LN. This is a common station here, but I wanted to list it, because somewhat misleadingly the announced frequencies are 1089 AM and 102.9 FM, which are considered the main frequencies of the news service, and the word "Liaoning" was not mentioned in every ID.
1008 8.1. 2000 + Nanjing PBS (News Service), Nanjing JS, never heard in Europe before, and a total shock as otherwise conditions to East Asia were below average.
1044 9.1. 1000 HLCI KBS1 Samcheok, rel. 864 HLKR
1080 8.1. 1059 DWIN Dagupan, simulcasting with 1062 DZEC, though a few seconds behind the more common DZEC.
1107 9.1. 1100 Jiaxing PBS (News Service), Jiaxing ZJ
1160.8930 8.1. 1049 DWCM Dagupan is of course a common station, but mentioned here because of its distinctive split frequency
1197 7.1. 1130,1300 + Heze PBS (News General Channel), Heze SD. The name of this service in Chinese was "Xinwen Zonghe Pinlu". The much more common Shanghai Opera service was identified here as well, but Heze Opera service (1071 AM) remains on my most wanted list.
1251 1.1. 1000 Ningbo PBS (City Life Channel), Ningbo ZJ, mentioning only its FM frequency of 102.9 MHz.
1269 9.1. 1100 JOJR Tokushima/Ikeda, "JRT"
1278 8.1. 1300 DZRM Malolos gave a very clear ID exactly at the hour, although not much else was audible: "1278 DZRM Radio Magasin". Multiple Facebook accounts connected to DZRM can be found, one of them for a program called "Sama Sama Salo Salo" - which sounds both very Finnish and very funny.
1296.0320 8.1. 1100 DXAB Davao
1323 8.1. 1214 DYSI Iloilo. DYSI was supposed to have moved to 873 kHz several years ago, but it is still here.
1368 30.12. 1000 JOHP NHK1 Takamatsu with a fairly rare local call-letter ID: "JOHP NHK Takamatsu dai-ichi hoso"
1404 31.12. 1300 + Fujian PBS (Economic Channel), Fuzhou FJ, identifying like this: "Zheli shi Fujian Jingji Guangbo". This was a truly welcome catch after having heard Hubei overwhelmingly dominating this frequency for hundreds of times.
1431 7.1. 1300 + Huaibei PBS (News Service), Huaibei AH, another very nice Chinese catch on this afternoon. Identifies as "Huaibei Renmin Guangbo Diantai, Xinwen Zonghe Guangbo".
1431 9.1. 1059 Songyuan PBS, Songyuan JL. Thanks to Guote for identifying this!
1503 5.1. 1000 NHK1 Kumamoto, Aso-Kuju (relaying 756 JOGK Kumamoto). JOUK Akita was of course on top, but surprisingly also this low-power station (100 watts v. 10 kW) was audible with a call-letter ID.
1565.9750 8.1. 1039 UNID Philippino station, saving split for future reference. It was audible until HLAZ (on 1566.004 kHz) signed off at 1059 UTC.
1575 7.1. 1000 Liaoning PBS (General Service), presumably via Dalian PBS, which is the only Liaoning station here. The ID was the standard Zonghe Guangbo ID with 1089 AM and 102.9 FM frequencies announced.
 Australia & Oceania
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
1080 9.1. 1000 KWAI Honolulu HI
1539 8.1. 1251 + 5TAB Adelaide SA was a pleasant surprise, noticed only years later when I was combing the files. The transmitter may have been on a split at 1538.9985, but I'm not completely sure.
2368,50 29.12. 1701 Radio Symban, Sydney NSW
 North America
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:

870 30.12. 2230 CFSX Stephenville NF, rel. CFCB
890 30.12. 0932 + KLFF Arroyo Grande CA promoting its programming and website http://890online.com/, which has subsequently been abandoned. This very short California opening brought also 1440 KUHL, neither of which I noticed in real time.

960 5.1. 1100 + KIXW Apple Valley CA. Luckily CFAC was quiet for a couple of seconds at just the right time.
970 4.1. 1000 KCMD Portland OR is not a modest station: "The cornerstone to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, KCMD Portland...", although maybe we could claim that about the DXing hobby as well.
1040 29.12. 0201 CJMS Saint-Constant QC
1070 29.12. 1300,1404 KATQ Plentywood MT, simulcasting on FM 100.1
1070 29.12. 2044 WTWK Plattsburgh NY, "Eve 1070, talk radio evolved" - quite a unique slogan for a talk radio
1070 29.12. 2145 + WKOK Sunbury PA
1070 8.1. 0805 WINA Charlottesville VA, "Newsradio 1070 WINA"
1090 2.1. -0000 KMXA Aurora CO, using slogans "María" and "Siempre Romántica", closing down or dropping power at midnight UTC. The GM verified my report in six minutes!
1100 29.12. 2104 WHLI Hempstead NY, giving frequent IDs. In December, WHLI switches from 10 kW daytime power to 500 watts at 2130 UTC, and closes down at 2200 UTC.
1110 29.12. 2116 WUPE Pittsfield MA, "Whoopie FM". WBT took over around 2130 UTC.
1110 29.12. 2200 WJML Petoskey MI, "Northern Michigan's Newstalk Giant, 1110 WJML Petoskey and 1210 WJNL Kingsley Traverse City", heard over WBT only at this time. Unfortunately no sign of the sister station on 1210.

1340 9.1. 0845 CIVH Vanderhoof BC, relaying 97 FM "The Wolf"
1350 29.12. 1304 WCMP Pine City MN. Listing deceased local people was a sign that this is a truly locally oriented station.

1350 2.1. 0900 + WRWH Cleveland GA

1570 2.1. 2105 WNSH Beverly MA
1570 8.1. 0800 WFLR Dundee NY. No need to report the "Figer Lakes Country" anymore, but it was nice to catch a beautiful ID.

1590 1.1. 1222 KDJS Willmar MN
1590 1.1. 1239 + WGBW Two Rivers WI
1590 8.1. 1000 WZRX Jackson MS is a Fox sports station, and always a pleasant station to ID, although I got it verified a couple of years earlier.
1620 31.12. 0705 WNRP Gulf Breeze FL. I once stayed in a motel right next to the station when I was on a reporting trip in the Florida Panhandle years ago. I paid a visit to the station and ended up on the air explaining what DXing is and how I liked being in the area.
1670 29.12. 0604 CJEU Gatineau QC, "La nouvelle radio communitaire Enfant-Ado"
 Central America & Caribbean
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
700.0016 6.1. 0200 NBC Radio, Kingstown, unfortunately a thing of the past on AM when I'm registering this logging. This was the last season that NBC was still on the air. Also Jamaica used to be on this frequency earlier, but unfortunately I never heard it.
780 30.12. 1025 XEWGR Monclova CO. These are the call letters officially here now. According to the WRTH and the station's own website, XEMF "Radio Nostalgia" has moved to 970, but I was still hearing "Radio Nostalgia" IDs on 780. Go figure.
840 29.12. 0000 Radio 4VEH, Cap Haitien
870 30.12. 1400 Radio Fórmula was the ID, but there are two in Mexico on this frequency. Given the late time, XELY from Morelia would seem more likely, but even that is a stretch.
1000 1.1. 1302 XEFV Cd. Juárez CH, "La Rancherita AM ..."
1030 31.12. 0400 XEYC Cd. Juárez CH, Grupo Radio Fórmula

1040 31.12. 0946 XEBBB Guadalajara JL, "Radio Mujer" - but hopefully also men are still allowed to listen to it...
1040 1.1. 1148 XECH Toluca ME, "Radio Capital"

960 7.1. 0802 LRA6 Radio Nacional, Mendoza // 870
970 7.1. 0759 ZYJ277 Rádio Difusora do Paraná, Marechal Cândido Rondón PR. Quite a mix as the more common Brazilian Rádio Pampa was identified here as well, and the frequency was dominated by LV2 from Córdoba.
970 7.1. 0810 + ZYJ260 Rádio Alvorada, Londrina PR, promoting showtimes of a preacher. Local programming was heard already before 0800. A different "Alvorada" station was heard on 960 AM, but no such name/slogan is listed for any station there.
1050 30.12. 0831 LV27 Radio San Francisco, San Francisco, with a fabulous full ID: "Transmite LV27 Radio San Francisco, AM 1050, de la ciudad de San Francisco, Provincia de Córdoba, República Argentina"
1180 7.1. 0800 + ZYK647 Rádio Super Nova Difusora, Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo SP. This morning didn't seem special at the time of listening, but when browsing the recordings much later on, I encountered some nice surprises from southern Brazil.
1250 7.1. 0802 + ZYH748 Rádio Coração Fiel, Ceres GO, solved a decade later by Rocco Cotroneo, mille grazie & muito obrigado!
