Belgian
Radio Vlaanderen left shortwave
Radio
Vlaanderen Internationaal (RVI) has discontinued
broadcasting on shortwave. RVI is the international
broadcasting service of Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep
(VRT), the public broadcaster of the Flemish community
in Belgium. RVI has been broadcasting two hours
daily primarily for an expat audience in Southern
Europe. The last shortwave broadcast aired today
October 24. Reasons for dropping shortwave include
the high cost and poor sound quality of shortwave
transmissions. According to RVI's survey, listeners
are increasingly using the Internet and satellite
radio instead of shortwave. RVI broadcasts only
in Dutch.
