AIH176 DXpedition Log
October 21–November 4, 2023

 Europe
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
639 25.10. 0525 RNE1 Albacete. This was the last station verified to me by José Antonio García Merino before his retirement.
729 25.10. 0525 RNE1 Alicante.
747 29.10. 1844 MCB Radio, Alphen aan den Rijn, was a lucky side catch when hunting (unsuccessfully) for a temporary German station on the frequency.
1107 27.10. 0545 RNE5 Teruel, at this point with regional Aragon programming.
1152 27.10. 0525 RNE5 Cartagena.
1350 27.10. 0039 UNID station broadcasting the UK Gold programming with UK ads and news at the top of the hour. Any ideas? This sounded stronger than the LPAM Hospital stations listed on the frequency.
1503.0031 21.10. 1653 Radio Calcio FVG, Murris Ragogna.
1574.9958 21.10. 1710 Radio Centrale Milano, Valenza. Both of these Italian stations were heard every day, usually best in the evenings.
6060 22.10. 0838 Radio Casanova International, Winterswijk.
 Asia
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
531 22.10. 1355 JOQG NHK1 Morioka with Tohoku regional news.
576 23.10. 1255 JOHG NHK1 Kagoshima with Kyushu & Okinawa regional news at this time.
576 25.10. 1211 DXMF Davao City, Bombo Radyo.
711 24.10. 1143 DXIC Iligan City, part of the Radio Mindanao Network, but also giving a call-letter station identification.
765 27.10. 1300 JOPF Tokuyama, "KRY Radio", heard back in 2010, but hasn't responded to my report, so let's try again.
900 22.10. 1500 UNID Chinese station, which identifies something like: "Botou? guangbo dianshitai luyuo guangbo FM 103,8 our happy car life." This announcement was resolved by Chris Kadlec, but the identity of the station still remains a mystery. Any further help is much appreciated!
945 22.10. 1344 JOQP NHK1 Hikone with Kansai regional news // 666 JOBK Osaka.
945 25.10. 1300 + Hohhot PBS, Hohhot NM. "FM 92.9, AM 945 Hohhot Guangbo Dianshitai, Zonghe Guangbo". Thanks to Chris Kadlec for solving this!
1017 29.10. 1500 Qinghai PBS Tibetan Service, Huzhu Tu/Nangqên/Qilian QH.
1026 22.10. 1355 + NHK1 Chubu regional news. JOCK Nagoya (729 AM) is the main station here, and on 1026 kHz it is relayed by six low-power relay stations around the region.
1161 22.10. 1355 NHK1 Chubu regional news // 729 JOCK Nagoya. On this frequency there are seven low-power transmitters around the region.
1170 23.10. 1700 Xuzhou PBS Traffic Radio, Xuzhou JS, // FM 103.3. Many thanks to Chris Kadlec for solving this one!
1170 29.10. 1500 Qinghai PBS Tibetan Service, Darlag/Guide/ Haiyan/Menyuan/Tongde/Zhidoi QH.
1197 30.10. 1340 AIR Tirunelveli. This is probably at least the third time sending a report to this station. No QSL yet.
1269 3.11. 1259 CNR17 Kazakh Service, Kaba XJ.
1422 23.10. 1400 + Yanbian PBS (Chinese News and General Radio), Helong JL. Many thanks to Chris Kadlec for solving this! The station identifies as "FM 98.3 Hanyu Xinwen Zonghe Guangbo."
1521 21.10. 1455 JORB NHK2 Kochi (1152) via Nakamura. I had heard and sent reports to this one before, but now the close-down station ID was exceptionally good, so I reported it once more and finally got it verified.
 Australia & Oceania
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
1440 24.10. 1109 Moana Radio, Tauranga, was airing the same programming as Te Upoko o Te Ika, a more common Maori station broadcasting on 1161 AM.
1593 24.10. 1137 Radio Samoa, Auckland, was audible under NHK occasionally around 1100-1240 UTC. There was no ID, but a specific Samoan song nailed the identity.
 North America
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
560 24.10. 0700 KSFO San Francisco CA, loud and clear at the top of the hour.
660 27.10. 0609 KAPS Mount Vernon WA. // FM 102.1.
740 24.10. 1000 KVOR Colorado Springs CO, finally, smashing the ruling CBX to smithereens.
830 23.10. 0800 KNCO Grass Valley CA, "KNCO Grass Valley Nevada City, 106.9 FM and 830 AM."
980 24.10. 0627 KWSW Eureka CA, "Always relaxing, always easy, Eureka's new choice at work, Easy 95.5 and AM 980, continuous soft and easy favorites." That's my kind of format!
990 25.10. 1100 KRMO Cassville MO gave an identical station ID twice(!) in a row in a calm fashion, as if designed for distant listeners, at the start of its broadcast day.
1010 24.10. 0700 KIQI San Francisco CA.
1039.9979 23.10. 0915 KXPD Tigard OR. No ID, but this is the only station broadcasting here in Russian.
1049.9957 27.10. 0559 KTBL Los Ranchos NM, identifying as "94.5 The Pit."
1059.9984 23.10. 0600 KFOY Sparks NV has become an easier catch now that CKMX from Calgary, Alberta, vacated the frequency.
1170 25.10. 1118 KJJD Windsor CO, "La Ley, 1170."
1219.9889 23.10. 0835 KLPW Union MO, // 92.7 FM, with classic rock.
1230 23.10. 0958 KHSN Coos Bay OR.
1240 23.10. 0824 KRJW Altamont OR, "La Patrona 106.5" was my last remaining target from Oregon on this frequency.
1240 24.10.
25.10.
0926
1100
KLIK Jefferson City MO. It took several years and multiple reports to get this one verified.
1250 23.10. 0801 KZER Santa Barbara CA, "Radio Lazer."
1250 27.10. 0600 KDEI Port Arthur TX, a Radio Maria station listing all its US transmitters.
1260 2.11. 0600 WWIS Black River Falls WI. The station probably should have been off the air at this time.
1270 23.10. 0717 KXBX Lakeport CA, "Lake County's home for the greatest hits on Earth, KXBX 1270 AM and 96.5 FM."
1310 23.10. 0300 KYUL Scott City KS is a familiar station, but is worth mentioning because of its changed format. KYUL is now a Fox Sports station.
1320 23.10. 0630 WNGO Mayfield KY. Simulcasting on 105.9 FM W290DF, which was given in an ID as well. Many thanks to OJ Sagdahl and Jim Solatie for solving this station ID!
1340 23.10. 0644 KTMP Heber City UT, "The Peak," promoting its streaming audio available at hebervalleyradio.com.
1340 24.10. 1000 KGHM Midwest City OK, on the web at 1340thegame.com.
1350 25.10. 0806 KBRX O'Neill NE.
1389.9958 23.10. 0559 KLOC Turlock CA, "Radio Católica, Unidos por Cristo y María." In a bilingual top-of-the-hour ID also an FM repeater K290CN on 105.9 FM was mentioned. Reception quality was surprisingly good and stable, and KLOC dominated the frequency for hours.
1410 24.10. 0930 + KTCS Fort Smith AR // 99.9 FM.
1420.0018 23.10. 0605 KSTN Stockton CA, "105-9 The Bull."
1420 26.10. 2300 WACK Newark NY.
1440.0033 23.10. 0730 KVON Napa CA, "Mega Mix."
1450 23.10. 0618 KHIT Reno NV, "ESPN Radio 94.1 FM."
1450 23.10. 1000 KEED Eugene OR was already QSLed, but deserves to be mentioned because of its fabulous classic country format. The station was heard on and off for hours.
1459.9964 23.10. 0703 KRRS Santa Rosa CA, "La Maquina Musical."
1460.0102 23.10. 0630 KION Salinas CA, "Powertalk 1460 and FM 101.1."
1490 31.10. 0732 WKNY Kingston NY, "AM 1490, FM 107.9, and anytime radiokingston.org."

1590 28.10. 0544 KGAS Carthage TX.
1609.9989 24.10. 0706 + WQPW217 Neah Bay WA, an emergency radio station for the Makah Tribal Council. The station simulcasts on 1650 AM, but was not heard there.
1610.0006 23.10. 0908 + WQWS230 Beaverton OR, informing listeners about traffic delays due to a major drinking water pipeline construction project. This was solved thanks to help from Bruce Portzer in Seattle!
1650 23.10. 0914 + WQHF574 Snoqualmie/North Bend WA. The station of the local Emergency Operations Center announced comprehensive contact information, which led to the discovery of the correct identity. There are two simulcasting transmitters in Snoqualmie and North Bend, both operating at a tiny power of 1 watt ERP, so this is quite a sensational catch!
 Central America & Caribbean
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
910 27.10. 1000 XEAO Mexicali BC, "Radio Mexicana."
1370 24.10. 0700 XEHG Mexicali BC, "Vida 1370", with an ID and the national anthem at midnight local time.
 South America
kHz: day.month. time UTC: station, comments:
1210 3.11. 0159 ZYJ219 Super Rádio de Curitiba, Curitiba PR, reported once again as the station has a new name.
1250 3.11. 0158 CX36 Radio Centenario, Montevideo.
1300 1.11. 0503 + ZYJ288 Rádio Educadora, Dois Vizinhos PR, giving an ID including its location ("Rádio Educadora Dois Vizinhos"). It is always a relief to be able to nail down the identity of a Brazilian station with this level of certainty when the station has such a generic name.
1420.0026 22.10. 0103 Radio General Conesa, General Conesa, simulcasting with Radio Tordillo 106.1 FM. Thank you to Mauricio Molano, Gabriel Gomez and Andrew Brade for helping to identify this station!
1559.9964 22.10. 0028 ZYL256 Rádio Jornal Leopoldina, Leopoldina MG, verified quickly by email.
