Ethnic Greek station briefly on shortwave in Australia

Radio Symban, a Greek station in Australia, has briefly transmitted on shortwave. Radio Symban was reportedly on the air on the frequency of 2368.5 kHz on May 17-20. According to various sources, the transmitter is located either in Peats Ridge or Peakhurst in New South Wales, and has a power of 1 kilowatt.
     Radio Symban began broadcasting on the VHF band already in 1997. Its first broadcast was aired on 151.675 MHz on Sunday, April 6, 1997, from its studio in Sydney. Later on the station has expanded to cover much of New South Wales, with studios also in Newcastle and Wollongong. Broadcast frequencies are listed as 151.675, 152.425 and 173.325 MHz.      Another private Australian company is also planning to launch shortwave broadcasts. Double V Shortwave Australia is based in Fairfield, New South Wales, and intends to broadcast on 3210 kHz shortwave.

Antares AM 1650 new on the Buenos Aires X-band

A new station has been heard broadcasting on the X-band in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. A station identifying as "Antares AM 1650" is believed to broadcast from somewhere in the western capital region. The first to report the new station was presumably Swedish DXer Hasse Mattisson on May 14. The station has been observed to use the slogan "La Emisora de la Familia".
     Also, a new Catholic station from Partido de la Matanza in the capital region has been observed by Marcelo Cornachioni on the frequency of 1510 kHz. The name of the station is not yet known.
     Finally, Cornachioni has also picked up Radio La Gauchita on 810 kHz, a new unofficial station from Morón in the capital region. Telephone number (011) 4489-2024 was announced. Programming consisted of traditional folk music. Both stations have been reported in the Conexión blog Últimas Noticias.

Hospital Broadcasting Sheffield in the UK launched on 1431 AM

A new hospital radio station in the United Kingdom has begun broadcasting on 1431 kHz mediumwave. Hospital Broadcasting Sheffield (HBS) has been on the air for over 30 years, but aired its first AM broadcast on May 3, 2008. Programming runs 24/7 and consists of request shows, specialist music shows, live sports programs and hourly news reports. The low-power transmitter is meant to cover the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Northern General Hospital and Weston Park Hospital, in Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
